Carla Medina Memorial Scholarship

The Carla Medina Memorial Scholarship is in memory of a lovely and dedicated wife, mother, and Early Childhood Educator with the Contra Costa Child Care Council. Criteria: working towards a Certificate or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, bilingual with fluency in Spanish, continuing or graduating/transferring student, and minimum GPA of 2.5. The scholarship recipient will be invited to attend and be honored at the Child Care Council Professional Development Conference. Note: Online applications submitted through the DVC scholarship application portal must be submitted by February 13, 2020. However, paper applications are available in the DVC Scholarship Office (Student Services Center) and the Early Childhood Education Professional Development Program Office, ECS 201 and 202. Completed paper applications must be submitted to one of these offices no later than Monday, March 2, 2020.

  2. To be considered for the Carla Medina Memorial Scholarship, a student must be bilingual with fluency in Spanish. If you are bilingual with fluency in Spanish, please write an essay of 200-500 words addressing the following: 1) Why have you chosen a career in Early Childhood Education? 2) What are your long-term goals in the field of Early Childhood Education? 3) What are your teaching strengths? 4) How do you plan to support young children who are second language learners in the classroom?
